Madison Embedded Systems and Architectures Laboratory (MESA)

The Madison Embedded Systems and Architecture (MESA) Group, directed by Professor Michael Schulte, is part of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Our group performs research on the design and implementation of low-power, high-performance processor for embedded systems. Our current research is on architectures, hardware accelerators, algorithms, and software tools for domain-specific embedded processors, including wireless, multimedia and DSP processors, network processors, security processors, and graphics processors. These types of processors achieve significant improvements in performance, power, and cost by tailoring their architectures and implementations to a particular application domain. Due to the computationally-intensive nature of many domain-specific systems, we also research novel arithmetic techniques, algorithms, and hardware designs for these systems.
